Crime thriller specialist George Kay, who is associated with some of television's best-known thrillers, most notably Netflix's ongoing Lupin and Apple TV's Hijack, is writing a new thriller.
Titled Gone, the British screenwriter has tapped actors David Morrissey and Eve Myles to star in the series for ITV Network, also known as Channel 3.
In what Deadline describes as a chilling cat-and-mouse thriller, Morrissey plays the Headmaster of a private school in Bristol who arouses the suspicion of authorities following his wife Sarah’s disappearance.
"An upstanding member of the community, Michael is inscrutable and likes order and precision in his working life, but then he encounters gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy (Myles) and a compulsive game of cat and mouse begins as she chips away at his veneer in search of the truth," the official logline read.
Interestingly, Gone recalls another acclaimed work by Kay, the four-part investigative procedural anthology series Criminal, which explored different cases in four different parts of the globe, with each episode covering a single case.
Kay is reportedly drawing inspiration from the work of Julie Mackay, a former Detective Superintendent for Gloucestershire Police, and Robert Murphy, the ITV Crime Correspondent. Their book “To Hunt A Killer” is also being used as an inspiration, albeit partly.
Aside from Gone, Kay is also bringing out two more shows — The Wanted Man, starring Hugh Laurie, for Apple TV; War, with Dominic West, for HBO and Sky Television.
Kay also has an upcoming Swedish crime series The Case, announced by Netflix recently, and slated to premiere globally in 2026.
Additionally, Season 2 of Hijack has been slated for a 2026 streaming release. Idris Elba reprises his character from Season 1, which premiered to raves.
