Zubeen, who was in Singapore for the Northeast India Festival, died in a scuba diving accident in Singapore on September 19. "He was immediately given CPR before being rushed to Singapore General Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared deceased in the ICU around 2:30 PM IST," the festival organisers stated.
His mortal remains were brought to Delhi and later to Assam on Sunday morning.
This comes as there were speculations around the death certificate of Zubeen Garg sent by the Singapore High Commission, which showed "drowning" as the cause of death. But CM Sarma clarified that it is different from the post-mortem report.
"But this is not a post-mortem report. The post-mortem report is different, and the death certificate is different. We will send the documents to CID. The Chief Secretary of the Assam Government is contacting the Singapore Ambassador to get the post-mortem report as soon as possible," he added.
The singing legend's funeral will be performed around 8 am on Tuesday at Kamarkuchi village. The state government will build a memorial dedicated to Zubeen Garg on a land of 10 bighas in Guwahati, revealed minister Keshab Mahanta.
"There is a lot of love and respect for him. He was a very popular artist…That is why people from all over Assam and the entire country are visiting here," ANI quoted minister Atul Bora as saying.
