Christopher Nolan has now added a new feather to his cap. The Oscar-winning filmmaker behind blockbusters such as Inception, The Dark Knight trilogy, and Oppenheimer has been elected as President of the Directors Guild of America in the Biennial National Convention, the results of which were out on Saturday.

In this statement, Nolan thanked the Guild and outgoing President Lesli Linka Glatter. “To be elected President of the Directors Guild of America is one of the greatest honors of my career. Our industry is experiencing tremendous change, and I thank the Guild’s membership for entrusting me with this responsibility. I also want to thank President Glatter for her leadership over the past four years. I look forward to collaborating with her and the newly elected Board to achieve important creative and economic protections for our members.”

Nolan was elected by 167 delegates who represent the Guild that comprise 19,500 members. The filmmaker, who made his directorial debut with Following and made his breakthrough with his full-fledged directorial feature Memento in 2000, will be working with Glatter along with new members and officers associated with the DGA's National Board of Directors.

A longtime champion of the theatrical experience and the film format, Nolan has been piling on milestone after milestone in his 25-year-journey that saw him rise from an independent filmmaker to one of the most acclaimed makers of big-scale epics with depth.

Meanwhile, Nolan is going all out with his upcoming fantasy epic, The Odyssey. The auteur, known for using large-format technology to treat viewers with an immersive big-screen experience, is filming the Matt Damon-fronted adaptation of Homer's classic poem entirely in IMAX, giving it the distinction of being the first film shot this way. This means that unlike his last few films, which utilised the format only in a few sequences, with the occasional switch between regular and large aspect ratios, The Odyssey will come to audiences entirely in the IMAX-friendly aspect ratio. Making it even more special is the fact that Nolan is working with IMAX film cameras, unlike the IMAX digital cameras used in films such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame
