Popular singer from Assam and youth heartthrob Zubeen Garg, known for songs like 'Ya Ali', died in a scuba diving accident in Singapore on Friday. Garg sustained injuries during a scuba diving accident and was rushed to a hospital, where he died at the intensive care unit while undergoing treatment.
The untimely deminse of the singer had his fans heartbroken, with people saying his death is not only a loss for music but also for the culture of Assam.
"This is an irreparable loss for Assam, our nation, and the entire world of music. Zubeen Garg was the heartbeat of a generation and his voice was a powerful symbol of pride for millions," Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted.
"He was far more than a singer — he was the soul of Assam, whose voice captured our joys, sorrows, love, and struggles, giving life to every emotion of the Assamese heart. His music was not just art but a bridge that united generations," wrote Assamese politician Debabrata Saikia.
"Zubeen Garg was more than a singer. He was a cultural torchbearer whose melodies brought people together, lifted spirits, and gave voice to our shared identity," Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu wrote.
Barpeta MP Abdul Khaleque wrote, "Hard to believe, but heart throb of young generation of Assam and North East Zubeen Garg is no more. Prayers for his eternal peace."
He was not only a great singer but also a wonderful human being and the true pride of the Assamese community, wrote a user.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he received the news from Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita. "It is a very painful news and an immense loss to the state and the nation," Sarma said on the sidelines of a programme.
In an X post, he said, "Today Assam lost one of its favourite sons. I am in a loss of words to describe what Zubeen meant for the state. He has gone too early, this was not an age to go."
