Rajinikanth is proving his worth as Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie currently stands approximately Rs 20 lakh ahead of YRF Universe’s War 2. Coolie earned Rs 193.25 crore after its comfortably extended weekend owing to Independence Day, while the Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR starrer enjoyed the same luxury with Rs 173.9 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

Monday morning collections, the fifth day of theatrical run, project that Coolie will mint and additional Rs 1.19 crore, while War 2 earns Rs 0.79 crore, bringing their totals to Rs 194.44 crore and Rs 174.69 crore respectively.

As the figures stand, it seems likely that Coolie will beat War 2 to the Rs 200 crore club, though both films face a downward trajectory after the initial inertia of opening day. While both films started strong, Coolie and War 2 earning Rs 65 crore and Rs 52 crore on day 1, both collected similar figures—between Rs 30-35 crore—on Sunday.

Coolie follows an ex-gangster and gold-smuggler, Deva, who reunites with his former team to reclaim an empire he once helmed. But the task at hand is far from easy, as gangster Dayal controls the portside coolies.
