A.R. Murugadoss recalls difficulty shooting with Salman Khan: ‘He turns up to sets only by 8 pm’

The filmmaker and actor recently collaborated for ‘Sikandar’, which, despite high expectations, met with bad reviews, resulting in poor box office performance

A.R. Murugadoss has opened up about his experience working with Salman Khan for his film Sikandar. In an honest interview with Valaipechu Voice, the filmmaker admitted that Khan was not an easy actor to work with owing to his tardiness on set.

“It’s not easy to shoot with a star,” Murugadoss said. “Even day scenes, we have to shoot at night because he turns up to sets only by 8 pm. We are people who are used to shooting right from early mornings, but that’s not how things work there."

Murugadoss further mentioned the physical toll it took on the younger actors who had to work late-night shoots. "If there were four kids in a scene, we would have to shoot with them at 2 pm, even if it’s the shot of them returning from school! They would become tired by that time and usually dozed off."

About ‘Sikandar’

Sanjay Rajkot, a man wanted by the police, fights for the greater good by standing up against corruption. Driven by love for his wife Saisri, he fights for the rights of ordinary citizens who have no one to defend them. Directed by A. R. Murugadoss, the film features Salman Khan, Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, and Sharman Joshi.

In the review of the film, THE WEEK wrote, “...there is nothing else the film has to offer, except repeat frames of a sixty-year-old man who keeps flaunting his blue bracelet and his bulked-up arms and torso every now and then, at times, even using them as replacements for dialogue delivery.”
