The Travancore Devaswom Board has issued an official clarification regarding the leak of a receipt showing that an offering was made in Sabarimala in the name of 'Muhammad Kutty' aka Mammootty, revealed later to be a kind gesture of fellow superstar Mohanlal, after learning about the former's 'minor' health issue, a week ago.
It was assumed that it was a Devaswom staff member who leaked the receipt, and Mohanlal implied the same in a recent interview when he was asked about the receipt's picture which went viral. The actor said that praying for a friend is something personal and that there's nothing wrong with it.
However, the Devaswom board maintains that there was no leak on their part and added that it's part of the receipt offered to the devotee that went viral and that they expect Mohanlal to issue a clarification.
Meanwhile, Mohanlal is gearing up for the release of his much-anticipated Empuraan, a sequel to the Prithviraj-directed Malayalam blockbuster, Lucifer.
Despite being seen as competitors in Malayalam cinema, Mohanlal and Mammootty, who rose to superstardom in the late 1980s — Mohanlal with Rajavinte Makan, and Mammootty with New Delhi — the two actors share a brotherly bond, and have acted together in multiple movies in the past such as Adiyozhukkukal, Aalkkoottathil Thaniye, Avidathepole Ivideyum, No. 20 Madras Mail, Harikrishnans, Narasimham, Twenty: 20, and many more. Mammootty had a significant cameo in one of Mohanlal's biggest hits, Narasimham.
The duo will be seen together again after a long gap in Mahesh Narayanan's upcoming big-budget thriller which also features Nayanthara, Fahadh Faasil, and Kunchacko Boban, among others.
