'John Wick 5' officially confirmed: Can franchise go ahead with Keanu Reeves?

The makers are planning to expand the 'John Wick' universe with sequels, prequels, and spin-offs

John Wick 5

Are John Wick fans really looking for a 5th instalment? Some would want the franchise to be left alone, but if the makers have a great idea to bring Keanu Reeves' most popular character back from the dead, especially with director Chad Stahelski at the helm, wouldn't it be nice?

Jenefer Brown, Executive VP and Head of Global Products & Experiences at Lionsgate, has confirmed the development of a new sequel in a conversation with ComicBook.com.

Talking about the future of the John Wick universe, she said, “This world continues to grow and expand in incredible ways. Up next, of course, we have Ballerina, which is our first spin-off movie and [we] can’t wait for that to release to the world. Of course, we’ve announced we’re working on a fifth John Wick film. I think there are more spinoffs to come, a TV series, video game.”

Recently, the makers released a spin-off series titled The Continental, in an older era, with new characters.

Despite the slight ambiguity at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4 that may or may not have confirmed the death of the titular character, there might be a possibility of seeing him return.

On his part, Reeves recently maintained that his character met his demise at the end of the fourth film. At least, that's what The Matrix actor believes.

However, Reeves will be making a cameo in the prequel film Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas and directed by Len Wiseman.

If Reeves does return, the franchise can either take the story forward by showing us that it was not really dead — as they did at the end of The Bourne Ultimatum — or go back to his early days before the events of the first John Wick, and explore some of his most dangerous missions as an assassin.

In Hollywood, anything is possible. Remember what they did with The Matrix: Resurrections?
