We had earlier reported about an alleged suicide attempt of popular playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar, who was rushed to a private Hyderabad hospital on Wednesday. After regaining consciousness, she clarified to police that it was not a suicide attempt, but rather an accidental overdose of sleeping pills which she took to counter a stressful situation resulting from a difference of opinion with her daughter.

According to ANI, in a statement given to police, Kalpana clarified that "she couldn't sleep despite taking eight tablets and had to take ten," following which she fell unconscious and "didn't know what happened after that."

Kalpana added in her statement that there was an argument after her daughter Daya Prasad refused to comply with her mother's wish to see her continue her studies in Hyderabad, causing her much stress.

In an interaction with the press, Daya requested news publications not to distort facts and confirmed her mother's above statement, adding that their family is happy and doing fine.

Kalpana was found unconscious when police broke into her home on Wednesday following a call from concerned members of her residents' community who had tried to contact her by phone but to no avail. It was also reported that her husband, who was in Chennai then, couldn't reach her either.

Daughter of playback singers TS Raghavendra and Sulochana, Kalpana began singing at age five. During the course of her illustrious career that commenced in the 1990s, she has lent her voice to over 1,500 songs across languages.

She also attained national-level popularity after her participation and subsequent win in Season 5 of Asianet's Star Singer Malayalam and Season 1 of Big Boss Telugu. She also served as a judge on several seasons of Super Singer Junior.
