First trailer for 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' teases a fun, retro-futuristic ride

The film's director Matt Shakman has worked on the 'WandaVision' series and some episodes in 'Game of Thrones', 'Succession' and 'Mad Men'

Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer

On Tuesday, Marvel launched the first trailer for the highly anticipated The Fantastic Four: First Steps in a grand space-themed event. The film's overall design deviates heavily from that of the previous Fantastic Four films, which makes sense given the "alternate 1960s" setting.

The footage holds much promise for not just fans of the Fantastic Four comics but for anyone who loves a good superhero flick.

The film is the first in MCU's Phase Six, and the studio has slated its release for July 25. Interestingly, DCU's new Superman film, directed by James Gunn, is releasing on July 11.

The trailer introduced viewers to the cast members and their superhero identities, beginning with Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch.

The other cast members include Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal (a version of Silver Surfer), Paul Walter-Hauser, Natasha Lyonne and Sarah Niles.

While details of the story are unclear, the trailer shows a scene that hints at the team taking on the supervillain Galactus, who makes his presence known through a towering shadow hovering over the city.

Matt Shakman, who directed the WandaVision series and some episodes in Game of Thrones, Succession and Mad Men, directs from a script by Ric Pearson, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.

Marvel is gearing up for the release of Captain America: Brave New World on February 14 and Thunderbolts* on May 2nd.

Meanwhile, social media chatter has pointed to the possible use of AI in the posters of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Marvel has denied the speculations.
