In the announcements made by Netflix India on Monday, there are titles across various genres, and featuring some of South India's biggest names like Nayanthara, R Madhavan, Venkatesh and Rana Daggubati, in addition to films led by the likes of Rajkummar Rao, Pratik Gandhi, and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
Nayanthara and R Madhavan lead Test, directed by S. Sashikanth and scripted by him and Suman Kumar. Their film is about three people whose worlds collide during a historic international cricket test match in Chennai, ultimately forcing them to make life-changing decisions. Siddharth, Meera Jasmine and Kaali Venkat essay the other prominent characters.
Interestingly, R Madhavan has a Netflix series that was announced at the event, titled Aap Jaisa Koi, a romantic drama in which Fatima Sana Shaikh plays the female lead. As per the official logline, it explores the lives of two seemingly opposite individuals as they embark on a journey filled with unexpected twists, deep connections, and, plenty of laughter.
In Saare Jahaan Se Acha, Pratik Gandhi plays a "resilient Indian spy must defeat his counterpart across the border in a battle of wits and tradecraft to sabotage a nuclear program". The series created by Gaurav Shukla also stars Sunny Hinduja and Suhail Nayyar, among others.
Rajkummar Rao's Toaster sees the actor reuniting with Netflix for an original after Monica, O My Darling. Produced by his actor-wife Patralekhaa under the couple's production house Kampa Films and directed by Vivek Das Chaudhary, Toaster is a quirky story that has to do with a miser, a toaster, murder and mayhem. The other cast members are Sanya Malhotra, Archana Puran Singh, Upendra Limaye, Farah Khan, Abhishek Banerjee (Rao's co-star from the Stree films) and Seema Pahwa.
Netflix also announced the second season of the Venkatesh-Rana Daggubati series Rana Naidu. The crime drama featuring the real-life uncle-nephew duo has Arjun Rampal playing the antagonist.
