During the promotions of Citadel, a spy series that will release on Amazon Prime Video on April 28, Priyanka Chopra opened up about a number of aspects related to doing action films and series, working in Hollywood, her Bollywood past, and more.
When asked why chose to open up about “being cornered in Bollywood” in a recent podcast now, she said because her wounds had healed and gave her the space to feel safe and comfortable in talking about it now. A few days back, in a new episode of Dax Shepherd's podcast 'Armchair Expert', Priyanka had said she was driven out of Bollywood as she was tired of politics and had beef with some people, without taking names. She also spoke about being in a “tumultuous relationship” which is when she met her now husband Nick Jonas.
In the conference, she was asked why she had to do it now and she said, "I think, first of all, when I was on the podcast I was asked about the journey of my life. And, I spoke about when I was young when I was 10, 15, 22, 30, 40 or whatever…So I was talking about the truth of my journey and now because I was confident enough to talk about that phase of my life. I think now where I am… I was okay enough to kind of articulate what I felt. I had a very tumultuous relationship with…what occurred, I forgave, moved on a long time ago and then I made my peace with it. I think that is why it was easy for me to talk about it in an open manner in a safe space.”
Further, she spoke about her role in Citadel, in which she is paired with Richard Madden and how the upcoming web series will be a one-of-its-kind spy universe that will have many more actors and actresses joining the fray in different seasons.
She is currently in India with her husband Nick jonas and daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. The actor attended the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) Gala in Mumbai and is likely to stay back in Mumbai, owing to her cousin Parineeti Chopra's upcoming engagement to politician Raghav Chadha in the first week of April.
Over the years how has she changed as a person and a professional? "I cannot work with people I don't like. I think for me what would be non-negotiable now – it is actually really true. I can’t work with people I don’t like anymore... I have to admire, look up to, like the people I am surrounded with. I have been doing this for a very long time. I want to be excited about going to work, I want to be inspired about going to work, and that has become non-negotiable for me,” she said.
In Citadel, Richard Madden will essay the character of Mason Kane, a spy who suffers from amnesia. Chopra will be agent Nadia Sinh, another spy who also suffers a similar problem. The spy thriller is jointly produced by Amazon Studios, Gozie AGBO, and Midnight Radio.
