The trailer of web series Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story of Sunny Leone was released on Friday. Staying true to the title, the trailer of the web series that will be aired on ZEE5, promises a no-holds-barred telling of the story of Karanjit Kaur Vohra aka Sunny Leone.

The trailer opens with a scene in which Sunny Leone is being introduced by an interviewer as an actress who is equally loved and hated in India, and a person 'no Indian woman should be'. It then shifts to show the tumultuous journey of Sunny Leone—her childhood, parents who were Indian immigrants in Canada, financial struggles at home, being bullied at school, her journey as an adult film actress and her Bollywood entry. As financial difficulties at home drove her to take up adult entertainment as a career path, she started earning money, and in a scene her father quips if she has won a lottery. Sunny Leone was the 'Pet' for March 2001 at the age of 19 for men's magazine Penthouse, and the trailer gives a glimpse into it.

One of the most poignant scenes in the trailer is when Sunny Leone sits down with her parents to have the 'talk' about her career path.

The trailer ends with an interviewer telling her that porn stars are often equated with sex workers, to which a visibly uncomfortable Sunny Leone has the perfect comeback. The scene is a stark reminder of a controversial television interview in 2016 that was widely criticised for being insensitive and sexist.

While Sunny Leone plays herself in the series, her younger self will be essayed by Rysa X.
