India and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their intent to deepen defence cooperation following a high-level interaction between naval and air force leadership of the two countries.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi met Chief of the Air Staff of the Royal Air Force Sir Richard John Harv Smyth, who is in India to boost military ties in the face of "emerging security challenges", to review ongoing engagement and explore new avenues of collaboration.

"The discussions focused on advancing India-UK defence cooperation, with emphasis on enhancing jointness, strengthening #interoperability, and addressing evolving maritime and aerospace security challenges," the Indian Navy stated in a release.

The two leaders also discussed expanding training exchanges, enhancing joint capabilities, and building capacity through closer institutional cooperation.

"The interaction reaffirmed both nations' commitment to deepen strategic ties and foster enduring defence partnerships," the tweet further said.

Earlier on Monday, Air Chief Marshal Smyth met his Indian counterpart Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh and discussed evolving security threats and ways to further strengthen the partnership between the two air forces.

"Our shared dedication to security, stability, and technological excellence. I look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to deepen the cooperation between our air forces in the years ahead," Air Chief Marshal Smyth was quoted as saying.

Commodore Chris Saunders, a defence adviser at the British High Commission, said the visit by the UK Chief of the Air Staff emphasises the significance of the UK-India defence relationship.

"As the fourth and most senior flag-rank visitor from the UK to India in 2026, this visit clearly signals the strategic importance both nations place on developing a strong defence partnership," Saunders added.
