In a major shift after years of tension since the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes, peace and tranquillity prevailed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the past few months, and India and China appear to be making efforts to keep this "upward trend" in the bilateral relations.
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and the visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during their talks under the framework of Special Representatives (SR) mechanism, expressed satisfaction over the fact that stability has been restored on the border.
According to Doval, borders have been quiet, and this new "environment" of peace has helped the two countries to move on to focus on other areas.

"There has been an upward trend. Borders have been quiet. There has been peace and tranquillity. Our bilateral engagements have been more substantial. And we are most grateful to our leaders who, in Kazan last October, were able to set a new trend, and we have profited a lot since then," Doval said.
Wang too agreed that there is stability on the India-China border.

"We had a very good 23rd round of special representatives talks at the end of last year. At that meeting, we reached a new and important consensus on the management of disagreements, stabilising the borders, and moving toward a settlement. We identified specific goals and formed a working framework. We are heartened to see the stability that is now restored on the borders," he said.
The Chinese foreign minister arrived in Delhi on Monday on a two-day visit. Wang's visit is largely seen as part of ongoing efforts by India and China to restore and rebuild trust after the Galwan Valley clash.
The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and the clashes at the Galwan Valley in June that year resulted in a severe strain in bilateral ties.
The face-off effectively ended following completion of the disengagement process from the last two friction points of Demchok and Depsang under an agreement finalised on October 21.
