Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, who played a major role in the recent ceasefire talks between India and Pakistan, has been appointed the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy).
He will also continue to service the DGMO, according to the defence ministry.
The Deputy Chief (Strategy), a relatively new vertical created for overseeing the Indian Army’s operations and intelligence directorates, among other important branches, is one of the most crucial appointments within the Indian Army. A few days ago, during the Defence Investiture Ceremony, Lieutenant General Ghai was awarded the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal.
During the recent India-Pakistan military conflict, Lieutenant General Ghai had spoken to the Pakistani DGMO over a hotline to discuss the ceasefire.
Earlier this year, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai had conducted a comprehensive review of the security situation in Manipur as well as the situation along the Indo-Myanmar border during a two-day visit to the strife-torn state.
