Russia claims Ukraine cannot counter its Iskander missiles

According to Russia, the US-designed Patriot air defence systems are unable to counter Iskander missiles as they have a complicated and unpredictable trajectory

Russia, on Monday, claimed that Ukraine admitted that Patriot air defence systems designed by the US are no match for the Iskander missiles.

Ukraine is reported to have six Patriot systems donated by the US and Germany.

“The Iskander missiles perform evasive maneuvers in the final phase, thwarting the Patriot’s trajectory calculations," RT quoted Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Igor Ignat as saying.

According to him, Iskander missiles are capable of dropping decoys capable of fooling Patriot missiles.

Meanwhile, Russia’s state tech corporation Rostec too echoed similar claims, saying the Ukrainian army has no defence capabilities to counter Iskander missiles.

"The adversary (Ukraine) cannot repel Iskander strikes. The ballistic missile flies along a complicated and unpredictable trajectory at an enormous speed. The overload during maneuvering considerably exceeds the overload that most NATO-made anti-aircraft missiles can endure," the company said, reported news agency TASS.

It said  the Ukrainian army has no capabilities to shoot down Iskanders and added that they can only "observe the flight of these missiles and realize the inevitable destruction of its sites."
