Indian stock market traders will not be able to operate on August 27. This is due to the suspension of trading options on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

Due to this, operations at both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will not be operative throughout the day. This includes equities, derivatives and SLB operations.

Traders will be able to resume their trading operations on August 28.

As per information available on the official website of NSE, trading activity in commodity derivatives will remain open in the evening session from 5 pm to 11.30/11.55 pm.

This is the second holiday in the month of August for stock market trading, the first being on Independence Day on August 15.

Upcoming holidays:

As per the official list of stock market holidays for 2025 on the NSE website, 6 more holidays will fall till the end of this year.

One in September for Id-E-Milad, three days in October and finally one day each in November and December.

Tuesday, August 26, saw the Indian Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty slump since morning. Shortly after the opening bell, the Sensex lost as much as 695 points to fall below the 81,000 mark—hitting a low of 80,940.67 for the day.

The reason for the decline is said to be the Monday’s draft notice by the United States over the implementation of an additional 25 per cent tariff on Indian imports. This led to a heavy outflow of foreign funds.
