CM Nitish Kumar, a relentless development “Yatri” committed to Bihar’s development

Patna, Jun 24: Be it four degrees Celsius or 40 degrees Celsius or is it the month of December or June, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar remains unaffected either by weather temperature or political temperature.He has been working tirelessly to make Bihar a developed state which has registered double digit growth in past two decades.

Kumar’s commitment for state’s development reflected from the fact that he began his two month long “Pragati Yatra” on December 23 last year in the chilly weather conditions criss-crossing the entire state. During the “Pragati Yatra” that came to an end on February 21, 2025, Chief Minister laid foundation stones and inaugurated 430 development schemes worth Rs 50,000 cores for all the 38 districts.

Chief Minister has carried out 15 statewide “Yatras” so far, which shows his commitment towards state’s development. Out of 15 such Yatras that he has carried out so far, Kumar’s first Yatra was “Nyay Yatra” in 2005 followed by several other yatras christened as Vikas Yatra (January 2009), Dhanyawad Yatra (June 2009), Pravas Yatra (December 2009), Vishwas Yatra (2010), Sewa Yatra (2011), Adhikar Yatra (2012), Sankalp Yatra March 2014), Sampark Yatra (November 2014), Nischay Yatra (2016), Vikas Samiksha Yatra (2017), Jal Jiwan Hariyali Yatra (2020), Samaj Sudhar Abhiyan Yatra (2022), Samadhan Yatra (2023) and finally the latest in the series is – Pragati Yatra.

In the last two and half months of summer when the state has been witnessing sweltering heat and people prefer to remained indoors, Chief Minister has been seen quite frequently, almost on a daily basis, undertaking outdoor visits of different parts of the state in the scorching sun to take first hand account of various projects and schemes.

In the past 75 days, between April 01 to June 15, 2025, Kumar has carried out a total of 79 programmes during the period that included 18 programmes of inauguration, 10 programmes of stone laying, 10 programmes of projects dedicated to the pubic apart from carrying out inspection of various projects and schemes and participating at review meetings.

In the past one month, Chief Minister inaugurated various projects in the state capital itself that included - a multi-modal hub and a pedestrian subway at junction, Bihar’s first double decker flyover at Ashok Rajpath, Mithapur-Mahuli elevated road. Besides, he inaugurated the final stretch of 20.5 km long JP Ganga Path from Kangan Ghat to Didarganj in Patna in April last. The first stretch was dedicated to the public in June 2022.

Kumar re-affirmed his commitment asserting that “the development work will not stop, it will continue with accelerated pace in future too.”

When approached for his comment on the work done by CM Nitish Kumar in the past 20 years virtually bringing a turnaround to state’s economy, veteran journalist Surendra Kishore, a Padma Shri awardee, said “It’s a reality. This shows his commitment towards work which he has maintained since the beginning”. The Nitish Kumar government has not only changed the face of the state but has also positively impacted people’s lives especially the wide network of roads both in the state and its capital reducing the travel time significantly.

“The Nitish Kumar government has done a plenty of good work especially in the road sector that has made travel easier be it Patna or elsewhere in the state.

When I was in service, it used to take more than one hour to reach PMCH from my Indrapuri residence located along Atal Path but now with the construction of JP Ganga Path, it just takes 10-15 minutes to reach PMCH,” Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), former Head of Medicine Department, Dr JKL Das said.
