CBSE implements changes in the post-result grievance redressal process, details inside

Previously, the process required students to first apply for verification of marks, then for a photocopy of their evaluated answer book, and finally, re-evaluation if needed

The Central Board of Secondary Education has officially changed the sequence of its post-result grievance redressal process for class 10 and 12 board exam candidates, taking a major step toward improving transparency and ensuring better student comprehension.

According to a circular issued by Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations, the board has revised the conventional three-step grievance system.

Previously, the process required students to first apply for verification of marks, then for a photocopy of their evaluated answer book, and finally, re-evaluation if needed.

Under the revised framework for the 2025 board examinations, the sequence now begins with students first applying for a photocopy of their evaluated answer sheet. Only after reviewing the answer script, do they proceed to request a verification of marks, re-evaluation or both.

Revamped post-result process:

1.     Obtaining a Photocopy of the evaluated answer book

2.     Verification of marks or Re-evaluation or both

This shift, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) explains, allows students to examine their answer scripts to better understand awarded marks, examiner comments, and potential errors. After reviewing their papers, candidates can make a more informed decision about whether to request verification (involving a check for totalling or unmarked answers) or a full re-evaluation of specific questions.

In the official communication addressed to school principals and heads of institutions affiliated with CBSE, Dr Bhardwaj stated, “Introduction of this new system will allow students to see their evaluated answer books before rechecking and give them clarity on the marks awarded, specific comments, and any errors made.”

The new system aims to empower students by offering greater insight into the marking process and providing a clear path for redressal if discrepancies are found. Students can now apply for verification, re-evaluation, or both, but only after they have obtained and reviewed the photocopied answer scripts.

CBSE has confirmed that detailed instructions regarding the application process, fee structure, and timeliness for obtaining photocopies and filing re-evaluation requests will be released once the board exam results for 2025 are officially declared.
