Heatwave warning issued for parts of Himachal rain likely next week

Shimla, May 23 (PTI) The Meteorological Department Shimla on Saturday issued a yellow warning for heatwave conditions in three to six districts of Himachal Pradesh, including Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Solan, and Sirmaur, on May 26 and 27.
     The Met office also forecast a wet spell across the state on May 24, 25, 28, and 29 due to the influence of a fresh western disturbance likely to affect northwest India from May 28.
     Light to moderate rainfall was recorded at several places in the state. Nichar received 17 mm of rain, followed by Sarahan (15.5 mm), Kalpa (13.4 mm), Kukumsheri and Manali (10 mm each), Bhuntar (9.8 mm), and Keylong (7.2 mm).
     Thunderstorm and lightning were reported from Shimla, Sundarnagar, Kangra, Murari Devi, and Bhuntar during the past 24 hours since Friday evening.
     In Kullu district, a large tree uprooted during a storm, fell onto the Manikaran-Kasol road near Kasol and hit a passing vehicle, damaging it. However, all tourists travelling in the vehicle escaped uphurt.
     The Met office said minimum temperatures are likely to rise by 2-5 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures by 3-7 degrees Celsius across many parts of the state over the next four to five days.
     Tabo was coldest place in the state at night with a minimum temperature of 3.8 degrees Celsius while Una recorded the highest maximum temperature at 41.4 degree Celsius.
