Goa CM urges banks to boost support for MSMEs startups at bankers' meet

Panaji, May 14 (PTI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday stressed the need to strengthen support for MSMEs, women entrepreneurs, startups and rural enterprises.
He was addressing the 133rd State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) meeting in Panaji.
Highlighting the progress made under the government's social security schemes, Sawant said enrolment of beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana has risen to 4.17 lakh in Goa, while enrolments under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana have reached 12.12 lakh.
There was a need to further strengthen support for sectors such as tourism, fisheries, agriculture-linked activities and rural enterprises through central schemes including Pradhan Mantri Employment Generation Programme, PM Vishwakarma, PM Mudra Yojana, Stand-Up India and Startup India, he said.
He also urged banks to focus on green financing, rooftop solar projects, digital financial literacy and expansion of last-mile banking services.
Sawant said banks should extend stronger support to youth and women entrepreneurs in line with the vision of Swayampurna Goa, Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on strengthening Goa's banking ecosystem, financial inclusion, digital banking and sustainable economic development, an official statement said.
