Tvasta launches AI-ready 3D concrete printer

Chennai, May 13 (PTI) Chennai-based deep tech startup Tvasta Manufacturing Solutions on Tuesday announced the global launch of ‘Cedar’, AI-ready 3D concrete printer designed for construction automation.
Developed in collaboration with 14Trees, a global construction technology company, the ‘Made in India’ printer aims to significantly lower costs and accelerate the adoption of 3D printing in mainstream construction, according to a press release issued by IIT-Madras.
Unlike conventional systems that rely on expensive mortar, Cedar is engineered to work with standard concrete formulations, potentially reducing material costs by up to five times, the release added.
"Cedar was designed to dramatically improve project economics, lowering the cost barrier and enabling construction companies to deploy 3D printing at scale," said Francois Perrot, CEO of 14Trees.
The system features a portal-frame architecture that provides large build volumes—up to 10 meters in height and a 240 square meter footprint—while requiring approximately half the capital investment of existing large-format printers, the release said.
Adithya V S, CEO of Tvasta, noted that the printer combines advanced robotics with AI-driven software to deliver a robust system capable of deployment across diverse environments.
"A key feature includes the '14Trees AI Companion', which uses AI to optimise material performance using locally available resources," he added.
