Illegal firearm unit busted in UP's Meerut four arrested

Meerut (UP), May 6 (PTI) Police have busted an illegal country-made firearm manufacturing unit here and arrested four persons, seizing a large quantity of weapons and equipment, officials said on Wednesday.
    According to police, a raid was conducted on Tuesday in Khardauni village under the Incholi police station limits, where the accused were allegedly manufacturing and supplying illegal firearms.
    During the operation, police recovered a substantial number of finished and semi-finished country-made pistols, barrels, cartridges and tools used in manufacturing.
    The arrested accused have been identified as Imran (40), Kuldeep (37), Narendra and Umang Thakur (19). Police said Imran was operating the unit, while Kuldeep acted as the main supplier. Narendra was involved in delivery and mediation, and Umang Thakur alias Deva supplied weapons to end users.
    Officials said further investigation is underway to trace the backward and forward links of the illegal arms trafficking network based on inputs obtained during interrogation.
    Police added that some of the accused have prior cases registered against them under the Arms Act, and efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the network and dismantle the entire operation.
