Illegal statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji relocated with people's participation in Maharashtra town

Beed, Apr 25 (PTI) The administration on Saturday relocated an unauthorised equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from a major highway intersection in Georai town of Beed district after reaching out to locals and taking them into confidence, officials said.
"By relocating the statue from an illegal spot to a proper location through consensus, Georai has set an ideal example for the entire Beed district," according to a release issued by the police.
The relocation, which commenced at 6 AM, marks the resolution of a sensitive issue after the statue was illegally erected in the centre of the road at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk on a National Highway on February 21.
The police had initially registered cases and taken preventative action against those responsible for the unauthorised installation. However, the focus quickly shifted toward a sustainable and respectful solution, with local authorities initiating a series of dialogues.
District Collector Vivek Johnson and Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat issued a joint appeal to citizens to ensure relocation of any illegally erected statues or memorials by coordinating with the police and local administrations.
Kanwat has announced that he will felicitate locals and 'Shiv Premis' who participated in this peaceful relocation process at the SP office in Beed.
