Forest dept conducts operation to find traps and snares laid by poachers in Thane's Yeoor

Thane, Apr 18 (PTI) The forest department on Saturday conducted a combing operation in the Yeoor forest range in Maharashtra's Thane district to find traps and snares laid by poachers to catch wild animals, officials said.
The joint operation involved teams from the Thane forest department and the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Borivali, who scoured the forest floor.
A thorough inspection was carried out across relevant forest patches and search operations were undertaken at several suspicious locations, an official release said.
"The campaign was implemented to curb the illegal trapping of wild animals and the smuggling of animal remains. Regular patrols and inspections will be carried out in the future to curb such illegal activities," it said.
The Yeoor Hills area, which forms a part of the SGNP, is home to a variety of animals, including leopards, barking deer, and various species of birds and reptiles are also found there, making it a sensitive wildlife zone.
