Budaun (UP), Apr 16 (PTI) An infant was allegedly abducted by an unidentified woman from a marriage lawn here, police said on Thursday.
The incident, which sparked panic in the locality, was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the venue, they said.
According to the complaint lodged by Shanti Devi, a resident of the neighbouring Sambhal district, she had come to Budaun to attend a wedding on Wednesday.
She told police that she had put her one-year-old son, Saurabh, to sleep in a room at the marriage hall and went to witness the 'Jaimala' (garland exchange) ceremony. When she returned, the child was missing.
"Based on the CCTV footage recovered from the spot, an unidentified woman can be seen carrying the child away from the premises," a police official said.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Hridyesh Singh Katheria stated that four dedicated police teams have been deployed to rescue the infant.
"We are scanning multiple CCTV feeds and have identified a vehicle and a few suspects in connection with the case. Our teams are conducting raids, and we expect to recover the child safely very soon," ASP Katheria added.
An FIR has been registered at the Islamnagar police station, and further investigation is underway.
