Shimla, April 14 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday unveiled the 'Architect of Equality' monument in Shimla, marking B R Ambedkar's birth anniversary, and said the social reformer saw education as a potent tool to empower citizens.
Speaking on the occasion, Sukhu said the architect of the Constitution of India contributed to promoting social harmony and equality.
Calling the social reformer a visionary statesman and a pioneer who dedicated his life to upholding equality, justice and the rights of marginalised communities, the chief minister said, "While drafting the Constitution, Dr Ambedkar ensured equal rights for all citizens and made an invaluable contribution to strengthening democratic values in the country."
He added, "He saw education as a potent tool that could empower every citizen to build an egalitarian society. He worked throughout his life for the welfare and rights of the backward sections of society and the poor. Dr Ambedkar's legacy continues to inspire and guide the nation in building a progressive and inclusive India."
Sukhu also urged people to take inspiration from Ambedkar's values and ideals.
Earlier, the chief minister paid floral tribute to Ambedkar's statue at Chaura Maidan in Shimla.
