MP Retired police officers rally against serving cops for ‘misbehaving’ with ex-DSP wife

Indore, Apr 12 (PTI) A group of retired police officers has alleged misbehaviour and action by cops against an 82-year-old former DSP in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district, demanding that the serving personnel be punished.
Girish Subedar, secretary of the Retired Gazetted Police Officers Association, told PTI on Sunday that the incident took place two days ago when the former deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was on his way from Panna to Gwalior.
He said a dispute arose over ex-DSP Bharat Singh Chauhan not wearing a seatbelt. A few cops from Madla police station in Panna district misbehaved and arrested Chauhan and his wife under the Arms Act, he alleged.
Subedar said the incident took place at 12 noon but the couple was produced in a court at 7 pm, which later granted them bail.
Nearly three dozen retired police officers will hand over a memorandum, addressed to the director general of police in Bhopal, to the Indore superintendent of police on Monday, seeking action against the cops from Panna district.
“The action by that constable and other officers of the (Madla) police station was highly objectionable, not just because Chauhan is a retired police officer, but he is a super senior citizen,” he said.
When contacted, Panna Superintendent of Police Nivedita Naidu said everyone has the right to make representations and express their views in a democracy.
“The video of the incident is in the public domain. It has been recorded on a police body-worn camera and is available for each individual of the public to form their own opinion,” she said.
