Mumbai, Apr 2 (PTI) A 34-year-old man working as a security guard allegedly poisoned his three minor children before committing suicide in Maharashtra's Solapur district, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Tirhe village in the district. The children were admitted in critical condition to the ICU of a government hospital in Solapur, they said.
The deceased, identified as Bhima Anna Waghmare, worked as a security guard at a cement company, a police official said.
He was under severe mental stress following a domestic dispute with his wife, who had left him to stay with her parents. Relatives had tried to mediate, but she refused to return, according to police.
As per preliminary reports, Waghmare took his children to a farm located near Valsang, where he allegedly gave them poison before consuming it himself, the official said.
The children were critical and undergoing treatment, the police said.
Further investigation was underway into the incident, they added.
