Telangana Assembly adjourned to Jan 2 KCR returns after long absence

Hyderabad, Dec 29 (PTI) The winter session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly began on Monday with a solemn tribute to departed legislators. In a significant development, BRS president and Leader of Opposition, K Chandrasekhar Rao attended the session on Monday.

The House paid homage to former MLAs R Damodar Reddy and Konda Laxma Reddy, who passed away recently.
Members observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect for the departed leaders.
After the obituary references and a brief zero hour, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar adjourned the House till January 2.

Rao's appearance on Monday was notable as he had remained absent from the assembly for the past two years.
Despite the acrimonious relationship between Congress and BRS, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and other ruling party leaders went up to Rao's seat and greeted him before the formal proceedings began for the day.
The winter session is expected to be stormy as it comes amid a heated war of words between the Congress and BRS over river water issues.

Rao, also known as KCR, had attended the assembly only on a couple of occasions, including during the budget session earlier this year, since the BRS lost power in 2023.

Though Revanth Reddy had attacked KCR several times in the past for skipping the assembly sessions regularly, the BRS did not provide any reasons for his absence.

KCR also attended the first day of the budget session in July 2024.

KCR had recently said Revanth Reddy's regime failed to put pressure on the Union Government, which returned a detailed project report of the Palamuru-Rangareddy irrigation project.

KCR's remarks received a sharp response from the chief minister, who pointed out that the former had mostly stayed away from the Assembly during the last two years.
