Law enforcement depts should work with industry academia to overcome digital offenders Official

Hyderabad, Jul 10 (PTI) Law enforcement agencies must not only upgrade their investigative capabilities but also build collaborative networks with industry and academia to stay ahead of digital offenders, Rajeev Sharma, Director General of Police, Rajasthan, said on Thursday, emphasising the evolving nature of digital threats.
He was addressing a digital piracy conference -- 'Securing the Future of Creativity' -- organised by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Indian School of Business (ISB) and INTERPOL here at the ISB campus.
The two-day conference, which commenced on Wednesday, was inaugurated by S Veeresh Prabhu, Joint Director, CBI and Prof Manish Gangwar, Executive Director, ISB Institute of Data Science, an official release by CBI said.
Highlighting the criticality of the issue in his opening address, Prabhu stressed that "Digital piracy is no longer a standalone issue - it is deeply linked with organised cybercrime and demands a coordinated response."
The event brought together senior officers from law enforcement, cybercrime experts, legal and policy professionals, academic researchers, and industry leaders, it said.
During the conference, intensive discussions were held on impact and law enforcement strategies for tackling digital piracy. Sessions included presentation from experts on piracy and malware nexus, the impact of piracy on India's online video sector, technical challenges in digital piracy investigations, legal challenges of digital piracy, combating music piracy, investigative and analytical skills for combating digital piracy and INTERPOL's response to online piracy.
A key message that echoed across sessions and panels was the importance of awareness-building and capacity development for law enforcement, along with broader public engagement, as essential strategies to address the evolving threats of digital piracy, it added.
