Three teenagers drown in mine pond in Gurugram

Gurugram, Jul 10 (PTI) Three teenagers drowned while bathing in a mine ditch-like pond located in the Aravali hills of a village here on Thursday afternoon, police said.
According to the police, around 12:20 pm, approximately 10 children from a colony in Bhondsi area had reached the Aravalli hills in Ghamroj Alipur village while playing. The ditch, filled with water, resembled a pond, and some of the children who knew how to swim jumped in to bathe.
However, Ashish, Devendra, and Surjeet, who did not know how to swim, also jumped in. As they started drowning, the other children began shouting for help. Villagers rushed to the scene to try and save the children, police said.
Police and fire brigade teams arrived shortly after receiving information and began a rescue operation. With the help of villagers, they managed to pull out the teenagers and rushed them to a private hospital in Badshahpur, where doctors declared them dead.
"All three victims were miners, aged around 15 to 16 years, and were studying in school. They were residents of different districts in Uttar Pradesh and lived in the Bhondsi area. The bodies have been sent for postmortem, and investigations are ongoing," said Inspector Surender Singh, SHO of Bhondsi police station.
