British-Pakistani heart surgeon returns to Pak joins govt hospital

Lahore, Apr 23 (PTI) Renowned British-Pakistani heart surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan, known internationally for his relationship with the late Princess Diana, has returned to Pakistan and joined a government hospital.
Dr Khan has been appointed as the head of the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology in Lahore.
Khan on Thursday called on Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who appreciated his decision to return from England to serve his fellow countrymen.
During the meeting, matters relating to the administrative affairs of the newly constructed Jinnah Institute of Cardiology were discussed.
The institute is expected to become one of the city’s major centres for heart treatment.
Born in Jhelum, Punjab, in 1958, Khan received his early medical education from King Edward Medical College before moving to the UK for higher education. He built his career at London's Royal Brompton Hospital, one of the leading specialist hospitals for heart and lung diseases, where he worked for several years as a cardiac surgeon.
Khan came into international focus in 1995 when Princess Diana visited the Royal Brompton Hospital during a patient visit and met him there. Their relationship later drew global media attention and remained one of the most talked-about chapters of Diana’s personal life.
The 2013 biographical drama film "Diana" explores the final two years of her life, focusing on her secret romantic relationship with Khan.
