Fire erupts again in shopping complex in Pakistan’s Karachi

Karachi, Mar 23 (PTI) A fire has erupted in Gul Plaza shopping centre again in Pakistan’s Karachi with rescue teams discovering a man in the basement of the wrecked building.
The shopping plaza was gutted after a massive fire in January that claimed at least 80 lives.
Fire officer Humayun Khan said that they received information about a fire in the sealed off building on Sunday evening.
“It was a fire coming from the basement floor and it was threatening and it took five fire engines to control and cool it down again,” he said.
Khan said when rescue teams entered the basement on Monday morning, they found an unconscious man inside a burned shop.
The unidentified man was moved to a hospital where his condition is said to be critical.
Police official Sarmad Bhatti said the person appeared to be an addict and might have gone into the basement to look for something to find and sell off. He claimed that the person may have started the fire leaving him unconscious.
Bhatti said how the man got into the building is being investigated as ever since the January fire, it has been sealed off with security round the clock.
The blaze in January took nearly three days to be controlled and rescue teams spent a week searching for bodies inside the building.
