Industrialist Sajjan Jindal calls on graduates to help bridge India-China economic gap

Ahmedabad, May 15 (PTI) Chairperson of the JSW Group Sajjan Jindal on Friday urged graduating students of Ahmedabad University to view India's development journey as an opportunity to build the nation and help narrow the economic gap with China.
He was speaking at the 16th annual convocation of the private university.
"India is not a market, it is a mission. Today is the most consequential moment in India's modern history. We are one of the fastest-growing large economies in the world, with the largest population. India's GDP is roughly one-fifth of China's despite a population nearly as large," said Jindal.
"Think about what that gap means. The scale of what needs to be built. For me, it is an opportunity for the Class of 2026 to help bridge that gap between India and China," he said.
The graduating class included 669 undergraduates, 241 masters and 13 doctoral graduates, a release from the varsity said.
Five students received gold medals in recognition of academic excellence: Khevan Thanki, Aadi Anthony, Richa Kotwal, Devanshi Kansara, and Moksh Shah who also delivered the valedictorian address.
Emphasising the role of education in preparing young people for a rapidly changing world, Jindal said students were leaving the university with more than academic qualifications.
"You leave here not merely with a degree, but with a way of thinking, with intellectual curiosity, and with the confidence to stand at the intersection of tradition and innovation," he said.
