Several movies didn't get a theatrical release. Also, there are several reasons these movies were banned or weren't released in theatres. However, you can still watch these films online or on OTT platforms.

Parzania

The movie is the story of a Parsi couple, who attempt to find their son who went missing during the Gujarat riots. The movie was not screened in Gujarat, as theatre owners refused to screen it fearing backlash. Watch it on Disney+ Hotstar.

Fire

This Deepa Mehta film was denied approval for release by the Censor Board. This was one of the first films to depict a queer relationship between two women. One can watch it on YouTube.

Kissa Kursee Ka

This political satire on the Indira Gandhi regime was made in 1975. it was never released and all existing prints were destroyed on the orders of the Information and Broadcasting Minister at the time, Vidya Charan Shukla. The movie was remade and released in 1978 retaining the same script and most of the cast. One can watch it on YouTube.

Black Friday

Anurag Kashyap's Black Friday was banned for its raw depiction of the 1993 Bombay riots. One can however, watch the movie on Disney+ Hotstar. The Bombay High Court had directed that the movie not be released.

Water

Another Deepa Mehta film, this followed the story of a widow in Benaras, who is sent to an ashram in Varanasi and is mistreated. Watch it on YouTube.

Angry Indian Godesses

Angry Indian Godesses didn't face a theatrical ban, but the Censor Board cut chunks of the film. Watch it on YouTube.
