The alleged torture and murder of a woman—identified as Nikki Bhati—last week by her husband Vipin and his relatives shocked the nation.
On August 21, the makeover artist and social media influencer was allegedly tortured and set ablaze due to her failure to pay ₹36 lakhs as dowry.
The horrific crime reportedly took place in front of her six-year-old son and her sister Kanchan, who filmed two videos of it.
One video reportedly showed Vipin pulling Nikki out of a room by the hair, while another showed her burning.
Her family claimed they had already given her in-laws a high-end SUV, a Royal Enfield bike, cash, and nearly 500g of gold.
Nikki's family also alleged that her murder stemmed from one of many fights she had with Vipin about her parlour enterprise earnings. They claimed that Vipin and his family wanted it for themselves.
The deceased Nikki Bhati's father also alleged that her in-laws wanted her out of the way as he was having an affair with another woman.
In that regard, a 2024 video showing Vipin caught red-handed with a woman in a car recently went viral.
The murder accused, Vipin—as well as his mother Dayavati and brother Rohit (Kanchan's husband)—have been arrested.
When Vipin tried to escape the police, he was shot in the leg. He was later remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
