BYD showcased PHEV Model ‘Seal U’ in India with claimed range of 1200 km; India launch by the end of 2026
BYD has showcased the Seal U in India, which uses its proprietary “DM-i Super Plug-in Hybrid” technology. This is the first model out of BYD’s India portfolio to get an engine.
The Seal U is powered by a 1.5-litre Xiaoyun turbo petrol engine combined with 2 electric motors powered by an 18.3kWh battery pack.
The claimed range in full EV mode is 200km, and combined, it is claimed to give a range of 1200km.
BYD stated that the car is programmed to primarily use its battery to power the vehicle, and at low speeds, the engine works as a generator to power the blade battery.
In the Global Market, the Seal U is sold with FWD and AWD options, and the Blade battery uses a “pulse self-healing technology” which helps in battery efficiency.
The Seal U shares a similar ocean-themed design language to the Sealion 7. The front fascia features sharply designed headlamps with DRLs and air slits carved into the body panels for the radiator, along with 19-inch alloy wheels.
In the interior, the car is fitted with an Infinity sound system, ADAS, a 15.5-inch rotatable infotainment unit and Vegan leather upholstery.
The car was first shown in the Indian market during the Auto Expo in January 2025.
