Have your multi-cultural origins influenced your music?

Having multi-cultural origins allows me to be open and fluid in my music and experiment with different sounds. Growing up, I listened to a [mix of] Indian and Serbian music, and what was playing on the radio in England. It has helped mould me into the artiste that I am today.

How does it feel to attain fame at such a young age?

I love being able to interact with my supporters on social media [platforms] like Instagram. They make me very humble and grateful. I am just happy that I have a career that I love and dreamt of having from a young age. Singing and writing my music make me so happy.

What does it feel like to be the first young British-Asian singer to be signed on by Virgin Records?

It feels amazing to be able to represent my community on such a large scale. Being the first one feels monumental. My team has been amazing and supportive in helping me bring alive my vision.

Who is your favourite pop icon and role model?

Some of my pop inspirations include Taylor Swift and Carly Rae Jepsen. They are such amazing songwriters as well as visionary pop artists. One of my main inspirations is Mariah Carey. She wrote 16 of her 18 number one hits. She is a legend.

Can you tell us more about the influences behind your new single, Hold On To Me?

I was watching several Bollywood films the day before I got in the session to make this song! When I came up with the Indian-influenced melody in the pre-chorus, it felt so natural to put it in the song. It felt like a great way to pay homage to my heritage. Like many Bollywood films, Hold On To Me is about a love story.
