Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Shafiqur Rahman on Friday declared that the organisation is open for alliance with any political party if it agrees to three conditions. The Ameer said Jamaat-e-Islami wants:
- the government to be corruption-free,
- it must not patronise the corrupt and no political intervention in judicial processes
- equal justice to all at all levels of society
In addition, there must be a commitment to implement all reform recommendations, Shafiqur Rahman said in Dhaka while addressing the central members’ conference of Jamaat’s student organisation, Islami Chhatra Shibir. He was the chief guest at the Bangladesh–China Friendship Conference Centre in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital, Prothom Alo said in a report.
Shafiqur Rahman reportedly said that for the past 54 years, pens were snatched from students. He said tender-hearted students had been misled and weapons had been placed in their hands. Educational institutions had turned into mini cantonments. There had been no guarantee of women’s honour or of students’ lives and careers. He said that dark chapter has begun to fade, but the dark shadow has not yet been fully lifted from the nation. Until this dark shadow is eliminated, Chhatra Shibir must continue its struggle.
Shafiqur Rahman said Jamaat wants to build an education system under which no one would remain unemployed after completing their studies. In this context, he said many people talk in terms of numbers, claiming they will provide employment to so many crores or lakhs of youths. He asked what would happen to the rest. Some say they would give allowances to the remainder. However, he said they neither want to see nor hear of the country’s youth accepting unemployment allowances from anyone. They want to turn everyone’s hands into the hands of builders of the nation and want to put work into everyone’s hands.

Jamaat’s Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said that there is a conspiracy to stop the march of the Chhatra Shibir and the anti-hegemonic Islamic masses. A group is trying to mislead the nation through lies and propaganda and push it backward once again, the Prothom Alo report said. He added that the nation will never believe such falsehoods.
Mia Golam Parwar reportedly added that the rival forces have labelled Shibir as anti-independence, as “throat-cutters”, and as a secret organisation, but have been unable to prove these allegations. He said the people rejected them in student union elections at four public universities, and that the public has never been misled by their claims.
During the peak of the student-led "Anti-Discrimination Student Movement" protests, the Sheikh Hasina government issued an executive order banning Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, under the country’s Anti-Terrorism Act. It is also noteworthy that the country's High Court in 2013 had declared Jamaat’s registration with the Election Commission illegal because its constitution violated the secular principles of the Bangladesh constitution. This prevented them from contesting elections using their party name or symbol.
The general election in Bangladesh is officially scheduled to be held on 12 February 2026.
