Amid outrage over the killing of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das, reports emerge of another youngster from the minority community being killed in turmoil in Bangladesh. The 29-year-old youth was allegedly killed over extortion charges.

According to reports, the deceased was identified as 29-year-old Amrit Mondal alias Samrat, and was killed in Rajbari's Pangsha sub-district on Wednesday night. Rajbari is located about three hours away from Dhaka.

Allegedly, Amrit Mondal was the head of a criminal gang in Rajbari and indulged in extortion and other criminal activities. Mondal allegedly left Bangladesh following the ouster of former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

The criminal gang was called the 'Samrat Bahini' and indulged in extortion, Bangladeshi publication Daily Star reported. On Wednesday, Samrat allegedly returned to the village, and he went to the house of a villager, Shahidul Islam, to extort money from him.

On seeing the gang, Islam's family has alerted other villagers. Allegedly, villagers thought the gang were thieves and Samrat was allegedly beaten to death, the publication reported.

According to the Bangladesh police, though they rescued Samrat from the mob and rushed him to the hospital, doctors declared him dead. Police said Samrat is facing charges, including for murder. Bangladesh police also arrested one of Samrat's associates, Mohammed Selim, with a pistol and another gun.

Mondal's death comes amid outrage over the death of Dipu Chandra Das. He was a local garment factory worker and was allegedly killed for making objectionable remarks about Prophet Muhammad.
