Ukraine's President Donald Trump Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in London on Saturday to meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer a day after his heated encounter with US President Donald Trump and Vice-President JD Vance in the Oval Office.
Zelenskyy and Starmer will meet at Downing Street, the official residence and office of the prime minister.
The Ukraine leader is also expected to meet a host of European leaders at a summit on Sunday to discuss the Russia invasion and the ongoing peace talks.
Leaders from France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Finland, Sweden, Czechia and Romania, as well as the NATO secretary-general and the presidents of the European Commission and European Council are expected to attend the summit.
Before leaving for London, Zelenskyy in a series of posts on X admitted that Trump's support was crucial to end the war.
“We are very grateful to the United States for all the support. I’m thankful to President Trump, Congress for their bipartisan support, and American people. Ukrainians have always appreciated this support, especially during these three years of full-scale invasion,” he said.
He asserted that both Ukraine and the US remain strategic partners despite the heated exchanges between him and President Trump on Friday.
The Oval Office clash between Zelenskyy and Trump has driven Kyiv's relations with its most important wartime ally to a new low.
According to reports, the Ukraine president was even told to leave the White House with both Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance accusing Zelenskyy of showing disrespect.
Following the dramatic blowout, a much-anticipated agreement between Ukraine and the US to jointly develop Ukraine's rich natural resources was left unsigned.
