Arab-Israeli actor arrested on suspicion of 'incitement to terrorism”

Since the conflict began, close to 2,000 people have been killed on the Israeli side

Maisa Abdel Hadi, an Arab-Israeli actor, was arrested on suspicion of "incitement to terrorism". Abdel Hadi, who lives in the northern Israeli city of Nazareth was arrested on Monday and placed in custody until Thursday. 

She allegedly posted a picture of a bulldozer breaching the fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel during the October 7 attack by the militant group Hamas. In the caption accompanying the picture, she wrote, “Let's go Berlin-style," referring fall of the Berlin Wall that partitioned Germany until 1989. Reportedly, the actor also shared an image of an 85-year-old woman who was taken hostage by the Hamas with laughing emojis.

Since the conflict began, close to 2,000 people have been killed on the Israeli side and about 5,000 people have been killed on the Gaza side. According to her lawyer Jaafar Farah, who is also the director of the human rights association Mousawat, “She is accused of supporting terrorism.” The 37-year-old has appeared in several series, movies and plays.

A singer and influencer from Nazareth, Dalal Abu Amneh, was arrested for allegedly putting up posts that could incite violence among her followers. She shared a picture of the Palestinian flag with the Arabic phrase "There is no victor but God." Abu Amneh is a known figure in the Arab world for her songs on Palestinian history. She has been put under house arrest.

According to a BBC report, at least 100 people have been arrested for expressing solidarity with Gaza over social media. 

"Anyone inciting against the State of Israel, its government symbols, elected officials, military personnel and police, should be aware that the Israel Police will respond firmly and without leniency," Israel's Police Commissioner, Yaakov Shabtai said, AFP reported.
