Moscow was attacked by three drones in the early morning of July 30, the Russian Defence Ministry said. One drone was destroyed over the  Odintsovsky district of the Moscow region. But, two of the drones hit buildings in Moscow.

"Gradually, the war is returning to the territory of Russia - to its symbolic centres and military bases, and this is an inevitable, natural, and absolutely fair process," Zelensky said on a visit to the western city of Ivano-Frankivsk, AFP reported.

Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine should prepare for a new attack on energy infrastructure in winter while warning that "Ukraine is getting stronger." "Today is the 522nd day of the so-called 'Special Military Operation', which the Russian leadership thought would last a couple of weeks," he added.

It is unusual for Kyiv to admit responsibility for attacks inside Russia. Drone attacks like these are an opportunity for President Zelenskyy to address the Russian population. Former president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, on Sunday, had said that Moscow would consider using a nuclear weapon if Kyiv's ongoing counter-offensive was a success. Moscow has rarely been targeted since Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Yurii Ihnat, the Ukrainian Air Force's spokesperson, said the drones aimed to affect Russians who felt that the war was distant, Kyiv Independent reported. Moscow, in the meanwhile said that it had managed to thwart Kyiv's attempt to attack Crimea with 25 drones overnight.
