The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly shelved its proposed 10-team plan for the next edition of the IPL in 2022.
The Indian cricket board would go ahead with all the existing eight franchises in the next season as well. BCCI was planning a mega auction to add two more teams in the 2022 mega-auction.
Now the BCCI has to find a way to conduct the remaining matches of the postponed IPL 2021 edition. The IPL 2021 edition was postponed following a breach of bio-secure bubbles, accessible only to approved set of people. Players and support staff were tested positive for COVID-19. Reports say that the discussion in the board will be to conduct the remaining matches in September this year.

A third wave of Covid pandemic has been predicted in the last quarter of the year. If the situation in India is not conducive because of Covid-19, the matches could be held in UAE, where the T20 WC will be played between 16 national teams. There are plenty of options with cricket boards of England, Sri Lanka, and Australia offering to host the remainder of IPL 2021. However, the BCCI is yet to take a call on the host venue.
