VIDEO: 'Goal of the Year'? Here's what FIFA said

What happens when football meets basketball? The result is the 'Goal of the Year'!

Football has witnessed some bizarre goals across the globe. From science-defying free-kicks to sheer luck, the game has seen it all. Or so, it seems.

But what happens when football meets basketball? The result is the 'Goal of the Year'! FIFA took to Twitter to post a hilarious video from its Women's World Cup 2019 account.

In the video, which FIFA said was sent to them by a follower, a group of women wearing hijabs are seen playing football on a basketball court. In the melee in front of the goalmouth, one of the women kicks the ball high and, much to the shock and amusement of everyone around, falls in through the basketball hoop.

Here's the video:

Sharing it, FIFA captioned it, “One of our followers sent us this, and asked us to make it our 'Goal of the Year.' Well...technically...” Clearly, the global football body was impressed by the unique 'goal', but can it be technically called a goal? FIFA cleverly left it to its followers to interpret.

USA won the FIFA Women's World Cup held in France earlier this year. They beat the Netherlands 2-0 in the final.
