Vinesh Phogat qualified for the 2020 Olympics, sealing India's first berth in wrestling in the Tokyo event, with a 8-2 win over American top seed Sarah Hildebrandt in the World Championships on Wednesday.

The Asian Games gold medallist made an impressive start in the tournament, defeating Rio Olympic bronze medallist Sofia Mattsson 13-0 in the opening round. However, Vinesh was pushed out of the title race by reigning champion Mayu Mukaida of Japan.

Vinesh stayed in the medal hunt after her 5-0 win over Ukraine's Yuliya Kahlvadzhy in the 53 kg category first round repechage for a shot at the Olympic quota.

With the win over Hildebrandt, the 25-year-old Indian is just one win away from clinching her maiden Worlds medal. She will take on two-time world medallist Maria Prevolaraki from Greece in the bronze medal match at 4pm IST on Wednesday.
