In what is being treated as a major security breach, an unknown car broke into the premises of the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Monday.

The vehicle rammed through Gate No 2 before entering the complex at around 2 pm, sparking alarm among the staff.

The masked driver then rammed through to the office of the speaker Vijender Gupta, and placed a flower bouquet near the porch, a Delhi secretariat said.

Witnesses said that the car entered the assembly, moved inside and then exited and disappeared.

Some reports say that ink was thrown at the speaker's car.

The Tara Siera car had an Uttar Pradesh registration number: UP-26 AZ 8090.

Delhi authorities are treating the incident as a major security breach and reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence to trace the vehicle.

Officials say the incident has highlighted gaps in the current security system. Authorities are examining how the vehicle was able to break in through the barricade and access the area.
