The Trinamool Congress on Sunday released its second candidate list for Assam, which sees a major change from the first—a sudden reversal from the party's state vice-president Dulu Ahmed.

Former Congress member Dulu Ahmed, who was set to take on sitting Congress MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed in the Chamaria constituency—that the latter had won back in 2021—has withdrawn his nomination.

With the withdrawal of its candidate Dulu Ahmed from Chamaria constituency, the TMC has so far declared its nominees for 17 seats.

The TMC is also fielding Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed in the Mandia constituency this time.

The three-time MLA, who has stayed suspended from the Congress for most of his current term as MLA due to "repeatedly violating party discipline", had first joined another opposition party, the Raijor Dal, earlier this month.

However, the Raijor Dal denied a ticket to Ahmed in its final list published on Saturday night, as it is now part of a six-party Opposition alliance that also includes the Congress.

This led to Sherman Ali Ahmed jumping again to the TMC, which has now named him its nominee for the Mandia constituency.

The other candidates named in TMC's second list are Dulu Ahmed's wife, Rojy, who will be contesting from Hajo-Sualkuchi, Avijit Mazumdar from Guwahati Central, Inus Kumar Kandan from Chabua-Lahowal, Paresh Borah from Mariani, Parimal Ranjan Roy from Karimganj North and Aziz Ahmed Khan from Karimganj South.

Others mentioned in the TMC's first list were Kalyani Kalita (Bajali), Rajan Chouhan (Goreswar), Hare Krishna Deka (Mangaldai), Udangsri Narzary (Kokrajhar), Mominur Islam (Bilasipara), Kaushik Ranjan Das (Abhayapuri), Faziur Rahman Laskar (Katigorah) and Shahajahan Laskar (Sonai).

Assam's Assembly elections are scheduled to take place across 126 constituencies in a single phase on April 9, with votes to be counted on May 4.
